New color tool in beta: ColoRotate

May 18th, 2009 by Russell Wilson

Michael Douma notified me of a new color tool he and his colleagues have been working on.

From Michael:

“Since color is inherently three dimensional, it’s always bothered us that all color pickers are flat. That led to the design ColoRotate, a 3D editor that aligns with the way our minds process color. We’ve also put together some background information about the nature of color, perception, and color models — http://learn.colorotate.org/

ColoRotate is a free online service that has some similarities to Adobe Kuler, but is different in that it’s in 3D. Users can browse color palettes, create new palettes, and share palettes with others in the ColoRotate community. This fall, we’ll be launching ColoRotate as a CS4 plugin.”

  1. Thanks for your post. A quick followup. Based on feedback from beta users, we have a few useful features coming out in a week or so, such as a full-screen mode to view your palette colors. We invite any feedback or criticisms via our site, so we can make it better.
